Dental Crowns, Inlays & Onlays in Dallas, Texas

August 23, 2016

Creating Beautiful, Durable Smiles with Custom-Made Crowns in Dallas, Texas.

ACTUAL PATIENT OF Dr. Robert Mitchell DDS

*Actual Patient

A damaged or severely worn tooth can mar your appearance and cause discomfort. Left untreated, the problem will only worsen and could result in an awkwardly broken tooth, acute pain, or a diseased tooth root. Let Dr. Mitchell restore structural integrity to your compromised dentition with a custom crown, inlay, or onlay.

A crown sits snugly atop a compromised tooth to strengthen and protect it. Dr. Mitchell uses all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and gold crowns for durable, long-lasting restorations. He’ll consider the location of your tooth and the amount of stress it incurs to determine which material to use. Porcelain crowns look and feel like natural teeth, so they’ll blend seamlessly into your smile.

Typically, we can design, fit, and place your crowns in just a couple of short appointments. The procedure for installing a dental crown normally takes two separate dentist visits. At your first appointment, Dr. Mitchell will examine the tooth to make sure that it can support a crown, then begin shaping the tooth to prepare it for the crown. Alternatively, if the tooth is severely damaged or broken, Dr. Mitchell may need to fill it in to make it large enough to properly receive the crown. After the tooth is prepped to the proper shape, Dr. Mitchell will take an impression of the tooth, as well as those surrounding it, and send it away to a dental lab, so the permanent crown can be made accordingly. By the end of this first visit, your tooth will have a new temporary crown that protects it until the final crown is ready to be permanently placed.

When the permanent crown is ready, you will have your second visit. At this appointment, the temporary crown is removed, Dr. Mitchell will position and fasten the new crown to the tooth with a special permanent adhesive.

Once a crown is placed, you can care for it as you do your natural teeth. Conscientious brushing twice a day and daily flossing will protect the base of your crown from bacterial growth. Be sure to see us at least two times each year for professional cleanings and a preventive exam, too. If you have any questions please call 972-233-1311 we would love to set up a consultation for Dr. Mitchell or one of our knowledgeable staff members to go over the process with you in more detail.

Drink Up: Which Beverages to Avoid to Keep YOUR Healthy Smile

May 13, 2016

Whether it’s sipping soda, juice or tea, some drinks are better for your teeth than others, right?

Dr. Robert Mitchell and his staff have many recommendations for the types of beverages you should avoid (some are probably obvious) and drinks to choose that are better for – or easier on – on your teeth.

We all know that sugar can cause problems with your smile, like tooth decay but do you know which sugary drinks are the worst offenders? You might be surprised. Check out our list and see if you are consuming more sugar than is recommended for a beautiful, healthy smile.

Sugar Filled Drinks to avoid:sugar-drinks

  1. Sodas like Coca Cola, Pepsi, Mountain Dew
  2. Energy drinks like Red Bull, Rockstar, Amp
  3. Bottled iced teas with sweetener like Snapple, Sobe, Arizona
  4. Bottled juices like Minute Maid, Capri Sun
  5. Enhanced Water Drinks like Vitamin Water

Alternative drinks to satisfy your craving:

  1. Water
  2. Milk (FYI: Make sure to check the label. Sometimes companies sneak sugar in.)
  3. Fresh brewed teas
  4. Fresh squeezed juices (mix with fizzy water for a sparkling treat!)
  5. Coffee (FYI: Watch what you put in your cup of Joe, though! Flavored syrups, sugar or creamers can add sugar.)

Finding a way to quench your thirst without harming your teeth can be a challenge, but Dr. Mitchell is here to help you keep those pearly whites safe! When you make an appointment with us, make sure to ask any questions!

Preview Your Future with Digital Imaging

January 5, 2016

When you decide to correct or enhance your smile, it’s often difficult to determine ahead of time exactly what kind of results to expect. After all, a smile is a pretty personal thing, and changing your smile can feel like changing your identity. That’s where cosmetic digital imaging comes into play. Digital imaging is computer software that allows us to take your digital photograph and manipulate it to reflect the procedures you’re considering. The result is a photo that shows you what your smile would look like after treatment. Whether you’re considering 1017529_110613153756_D10g

The process is quite simple. Once your dentist has completed your oral exam and discussed your smile goals, a treatment plan will be created. Various digital photos of your current smile will be taken and change factors will be keyed into the computer. The computer will immediately generate one or more graphic images that accurately demonstrate how the changes will affect the appearance of your mouth, as well as your overall facial appearance. It’s a fun process, and it can instigate excitement similar to when a sonogram reveals the gender of a new baby. Plus, you can take a photo of the new you home to share with family or friends.

Informed patients make wise decisions, and digital imaging allows you the opportunity to actually glimpse your future before committing to treatment. What more could you ask for?

A Beautiful smile is a valuable asset! Let us explain how our advanced procedures in both cosmetic and general dentistry can give you the attractive smile you’ve always wanted.

Call 972-233-1311 today to schedule your Complimentary Consult to learn more about your smile and different options to enhance your smile.

Skilled Dallas Dentist Helping Patients Maintain Healthy Smiles

A strong, healthy smile is something to be treasured. Proper preventive care can keep your teeth and gums looking and feeling great for years to come. As an experienced Dallas Dentist and General Dentist, Dr. Mitchell offers a variety of therapies to maximize oral wellness.

For optimal dental wellbeing, Dr. Mitchell recommends regular, six-month checkups. He may suggest products and techniques to optimize your oral homecare routine. The American Dental Association recommends you see your dentist at least twice each year for a checkup. At your checkup, we will inspect your soft tissues for oral cancer, periodontal disease, and other problems. The dentist will also look at each tooth in your mouth to assess problems like tooth decay or cracks, as well as old dental work. Sometimes old dental work wears out and needs to be replaced. We will be happy to replace metal fillings, inlays, onlays, and crowns with tooth-colored alternatives.

By looking for trouble every six months, we can often reduce the potential for large dental problems. For instance, a small cavity can grow to destroy an entire tooth and spread to surrounding teeth if left untreated. A cracked tooth can cause pain or break off and create additional problems. Furthermore, advanced gum disease is the primary cause of tooth loss for American adults, and oral cancer causes more than 7500 deaths each year. Caught and treated early, these diseases can be controlled.

If you have not scheduled a checkup lately, be sure to call us now to make your appointment! Children as young as two should visit the dentist, and by age four or five, they should be attending regular checkups.
